How we started
Wheels of Hope began in the heart of downtown Charleston, where a group of concerned locals gathered to discuss the growing needs of our community. As we shared stories over cups of sweet tea, we realized that many of our neighbors were unaware of the benefits available to them. We uncovered a startling truth: eligible families were not enrolling in vital programs like SNAP and WIC, leaving them without essential resources.
Inspired to make a difference, we developed the concept of Wheels of Hope—connecting vehicle donations to fund a local benefits-research service. With each car donation, we empower our community to access vital resources, ensuring that no one in Charleston goes hungry or struggles to meet their basic needs. Through this initiative, we are bridging the gap between those in need and the programs designed to help them thrive.
Our mission
At Wheels of Hope, our mission is to connect Charleston residents with essential resources like SNAP, Healthy Connections, Family Independence, WIC, and LIHEAP. By transforming vehicle donations into critical funding, we strive to create a healthier, more equitable community. We believe that everyone deserves access to the support they need, and through our research initiatives, we ensure that local residents are informed and empowered to benefit from programs that can enhance their lives.

Why this city
Charleston, with its vibrant neighborhoods like West Ashley and North Charleston, is a city rich in culture yet faces significant challenges. Many residents, particularly those in underserved areas, often miss out on essential benefits due to lack of awareness or access. Our mission is crucial in a city where 20% of the population lives in poverty and enrollment gaps exist in programs like Healthy Connections. By focusing on our local context, we aim to empower our community members to access the resources they deserve, making a tangible difference in their lives.
